Nissan X-Trail price in Kenya and detailed review

Good reasons for buying Nissan X-Trail in Kenya

  • With the intelligent all-wheel drive that can be switched on, the X-Trail is flexible for city, winter and off-road driving. The technology is of interest to anyone who wants an all-round alternative to an SUV with permanent all-wheel drive.
  • Off-roader fans regret the transformation into a crossover in 2014, but the repositioning makes the Nissan SUV attractive for the large compact SUV target group.
  • Thanks to the sliding rear bench seat with adjustable backrest, the X-Trail can be set up for various tasks as a touring and family car or for transporting cargo and leisure equipment. This makes it a flexible alternative to the mid-range station wagon.
  • As a family SUV, the X-Trail can be equipped with a third row of seats from 2014 and compete as a 7-seater with a van or minibus.

Technical specifications

Nissan offers petrol and diesel engines with front-wheel or all-wheel drive in the X-Trail series , but keeps the engine range manageable. There is an important innovation in the Nissan X-Trail 2022/2023, with which the e-power model is intended to offer a savings alternative as a full hybrid for the first time.

Powertrain

1st generation (2001 – 2007):

With front-wheel drive, the Nissan X-Trail 4x2 is available with a 2.0 liter Euro 4 petrol engine that emits 103 kW (140 hp) and consumes an average of 9.1 liters (217 g/km CO2 emissions). An alternative is the X-Trail 4x2 2.2 dCi as a Euro 3 diesel with 100 kW (136 hp) and 7.1 liter consumption (189 g/km CO2 emissions).

The diesel is also used in the Nissan X-Trail 4x4 , while the top-of-the-line four-wheel drive model features a 2.5-liter petrol engine. The engine delivers 121 kW (165 hp) and consumes an average of 9.4 to 9.6 liters (178 to 190 g/km CO2 emissions). The engines are combined with a 5/6-speed gearbox or an automatic transmission for the top petrol engine as an option.

Depending on the technology, the X-Trail of the first construction phase can tow a trailer load of 1.35 to 2.0 tons .

2nd generation (2007 – 2014):

The most important innovation is in the diesels with particle filters and Euro 5 classification, which come into the range as the Nissan X-Trail 2.0 dCi in the power classes of 110 and 127 kW (150 and 173 hp). There is also a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic depending on the engine choice.

The manufacturer specifies the combined fuel consumption as 6.4 liters (168 to 188 g/km CO2 emissions). As a towing vehicle, the X-Trail Topdiesel has a towing capacity of 2.2 tons .

3rd generation (2014 – 2022):

With front-wheel drive and more economical petrol engines, Nissan is making the X-Trail more attractive as an everyday car for a broader target group. The new entry-level model for 2019 will be the Nissan X-Trail 1.3 DIG-T with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and 160 hp, replacing the almost equally powerful 1.6 DIG-T. When it comes to consumption of 6.2 to 6.8 liters (144 to 154 g/km CO2 emissions), the two petrol engines are not far apart.

All-wheel drive is available as an option for the diesels, which depending on the construction phase come off the assembly line as the Nissan X-Trail 1.6 dCi, 1.7 dCi or 2.0 dCi with power ratings from 96 kW (130 hp) to 130 kW (177 hp) With a 6-speed gearbox, the diesels can tow loads of up to 2.0 tons, while the models with automatic transmission can pull 1.5 to 1.65 tons on the hook. Nissan specifies the combined fuel consumption of the diesels as 4.9 to 6.8 liters (129 to 162 g/km CO2 emissions).

4th generation (from 2021):

The e-Power Hybrid , which combines a three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor for the drive and is said to have a good 190 hp, is to be added to the engine range.

Dimensions

With its dimensions, the Nissan X-Trail has grown over the years from compact dimensions with a length of 4.45 meters, a width of 1.76 meters and a height of 1.67 meters to the SUV middle class . Because in the newer generations from 2014, the Japanese SUV classic comes to a length of 4.65 to almost 4.70 meters on the Nissan X-Trail 2023. With the same wheelbase of 2.70 meters, the manufacturer sets the crossover with the development of almost 1.80 to 1.84 meters wider at the same time. With around 20 centimeters of ground clearance, all generations of the X-Trail can also be used off-road.

If you want the car as a 7-seater SUV , you have to look for a model from 2014. Because then the third row of seats is an option in the program. In addition, the Nissan has installed the longitudinally sliding and separately folding second row of seats with backrest adjustment as standard.

This means more comfort for the rear passengers and at the same time offers the option of flexibly increasing the trunk if a lot of luggage has to be taken along. The Nissan X-Trail 2014 can use around 550 to 1877 liters of luggage space . For comparison, the 2008 generation offers a luggage capacity of 479 to 1773 liters in the trunk, while the first version of 2001 has a luggage capacity of 410 to 1841 liters.

Variants

Nissan launched the first generation of the X-Trail in 2001 in the Comfort, Sport and Elegance trim levels and then included the models as XE, SE and LE with the introduction of the second generation in 2007. Newer vehicles in the range come in variants such as the Visia, Acenta, N-Connecta, N-Design and Tekna . In addition, special models such as X-Pedition, X-Treme or 360o can be found in the different years of construction.

Exterior

Until 2013, the X-Trail, built as a 5-door model, was based on the shape of an off-road vehicle and is therefore interesting as a used vehicle for anyone looking for a rustic SUV with an angular body and box rear with plenty of headroom. This is complemented by special equipment such as the roof rack system with integrated headlights, which proves useful for leisure and off-road use.

For those who prefer the modern look of a crossover , the X-Trail built from 2014 has the right look, which in the new edition in 2022 will have a more dynamic profile thanks to sharper lines.

A useful feature not only for the Nissan X-Trail 7-seater is the large glass panoramic roof , which visually gives the rear passengers more freedom and is standard in the top model Tekna, for example. From the N-Connecta equipment, Nissan also put a rear privacy glazing, which gives privacy and protects from direct sunlight. There are also 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights in the higher-quality versions.

The X-Trail N-Design is recommended as a sporty variant , which differs from the other model versions with black rims and black add-on parts for the radiator grille and mirror caps. There is also the Nissan with a style package, which visually enhances the X-Trail with 19-inch alloy wheels and brings a practical extra on board in everyday life with the electrically opening tailgate.

For off-road and leisure use, the SUV is interesting with the X-Treme package launched in 2015, which comes with a detachable trailer hitch, rear underride protection and the luggage partition net for the trunk ex works.

interior

With features such as two-zone automatic air conditioning, center armrest, backrest pockets and XXL glove compartment, the second generation of the 2008 Nissan X-Trail has many practical details . This makes used cars of this generation interesting for families with a smaller budget, who can do without standards such as a built-in navigation system.

If you want to use modern technology, the used Nissan X-Trail from 2014 is the better choice. Because then the higher equipment lines or the special model have a 360-degree navigation system, touchscreen, Bluetooth interface, USB port and technology for integrating the smartphone on board. The X-Trail Tekna, which comes with electrically adjustable front seats, heated rear seats and leather upholstery as extras, stands for more comfort.

Security

From the year of construction 2008, the X-Trail comes with safety equipment such as ESP, ABS with brake force distribution and active headrests and thus achieves four out of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. However, the Nissan X-Trail only gets the top mark in the test and electronic on-board helpers from the third generation of 2014 onwards.

From this construction phase, models with the Nissan Safety Shield technology can be found, which brings the blind spot and lane departure warning system on board in addition to the factory-installed emergency brake assistant. We particularly recommend X-Trail N-Connecta with the driver assistance package, which is also supplemented by a cross-traffic warning on the Tekna model.

If you want to buy a used Nissan X-Trail, you should pay attention to oil loss and weak points in the axle suspension or steering joints, especially in older models . The turbochargers can also cause problems, especially in vehicles from the first years of construction.

For models with a high mileage, you should generally take a closer look at the brake discs , as these are known to be susceptible to wear. In terms of engine technology, the Japanese SUV is rather robust and reliably.

Alternatives

With the Nissan Qashqai, the Japanese have had a more compact SUV in their range since 2006, which later shares the technology and construction platform with the X-Trail. In the model years from 2008 to 2013 there is also a choice between 5 and 7 seaters with the Nissan Qashqai+2 . From 2005 to 2014, the Nissan Murano is also be available as a competitor .

The X-Trail faces competition as a 7-seater SUV from models such as the related  VW Tiguan Allspace or the Mitsubishi Outlander . Also, spacious mid-range SUVs include the Hyundai Tuscon, Kia Sorento and Subaru Forester , while the lifestyle-designed French duo Peugeot 5008 compete against the Nissan X-Trail. The Toyota RAV4 is also a worthy competitor to Nissan X-Trail in Kenya
