In 1934, Ferdinand Porsche constructed the prototype of the first VW Beetle, which is now traded for large sums. As a result of this work, Robert Ley, leader of the German Labor Front, founded the Society for the Preparation of the German Volkswagen mbH in 1937. The goals set were clearly formulated by the government: a car manufacturer should be established in Germany that would mass-produce the Beetle and thus sell a vehicle that was affordable for everyone and offered safety, a real Volkswagen. Very early on, the course was set for the Beetle to become the most-produced automobile of all time after the Second World War and for everyone to want it. Today it has a high value as a vintage car. After the end of the war, the state of Lower Saxony and the Federal Republic of Germany took over the trusteeship of the company, which henceforth traded as Volkswagenwerk GmbH. In 1960 the company was partially privatized and renamed Volkswagenwerk AG. In 1969, Volkswagen received a 59.5% stake in the newly formed Audi NSU Auto Union AG, which was renamed Audi AG in 1985. This brought another strong partner to their side.
From 1973, the car manufacturer switched from air-cooled rear engines to water-cooled front-wheel drive and designed absolute bestsellers with the Polo, Golf and Passat, which increased the reputation of the German company worldwide. Even as a used car, these models still have a high value. In 1986 Volkswagen took over the Spanish automobile manufacturer Seat and in 1991 the Czech state-owned company Škoda. But Volkswagen's expansion continued steadily. Volkswagen AG is now a diversified company that produces both new cars for less than 10,000 euros and super sports cars such as Lamborghini and Bugatti.
The group is not only known for the production of automobiles, but is also active in other business areas. The group also manufactures large diesel engines that are used for maritime and stationary applications or steam and gas turbines as well as chemical reactors. In addition, Volkswagen is active in the manufacture of special gears for vehicles and wind turbines and develops bearings and clutches for industrial purposes. In addition, Volkswagen AG offers products in the area of financial services. If you want, you can take out financing through the group after buying your new VW car, lease your car through VW or have it insured. Of course, this also applies if you decide to buy a used VW car.
VW has become Europe's largest automobile manufacturer. In addition to the Fox and Polo small cars, which are well known in Germany, the Golf, Jetta and New Beetle compact cars, the Passat mid-range car and the Arteon luxury sedan, Volkswagen has two vans, the Sharan and the slightly smaller Touran, as well as the Caddy panel van and the Multivan T5 to present a wide range of models, which also have a high value retention as used cars.
It's not just in Europe that numerous Volkswagens are on the road and have their fans. VW car models are also bought in Asian, African and American countries. This also has to do with the fact that the group operates production facilities on these continents. Approximately 550,000 people around the world are employed working for the car brand in the various business areas of the group. The vehicles are offered in a total of 153 countries around the world. Customers worldwide benefit from the attractive models, which not only look good, but also provide driving safety and drive in an increasingly environmentally friendly manner.
